At 242 metres, Brookfield Place Calgary is the tallest building in the city and a signature addition to the Calgary skyline. The building is wrapped in a smooth, frameless, high efficiency curtain wall with a high proportion of vision panel glazing permitting ample natural light, maximizing views and creating a clean architectural expression. The glazing helps reduce the environmental and economic impacts associated with excessive energy use. The sunlit public plaza anchoring the two towers is unprecedented in Calgary at more than half an acre. Enhancing this huge public space is a 4,645 square metre glazed urban pavilion that embraces the plaza while enclosing an internal civic square connected to the +15 network.

Standing out in downtown The building provides a contemporary modernist composition and a timeless addition to the Calgary skyline.

Classic and modern The building displays a subtle sophistication in form. Corners are rounded and tapered from top to bottom. A curved tower top ‘crown’ features frameless low-iron clear glass.

Playing with light and view A smooth, frameless, high efficiency curtain wall allows ample natural light, while maximizing views of the city and the mountains. The glazing minimizes energy use.

Bringing outdoors inside The upper pavilion level incorporates seating under a tree canopy, and a focal space in the centre. This area is saturated with natural light via the glass roof of the pavilion.

At the center of the action The project is located in the heart of the central business district in downtown Calgary. It offers a significant addition to the urban redevelopment in the city centre.

A significant new urban space A dramatic arrival plaza awaits those working in and visiting the new office tower. The high building lobbies and pavilion entries provide visual connection to the plaza.

An outdoor urban park Soft and hard landscaping augment the function of the plaza. The design accommodates pedestrian flows, reduces street noise impact, and provides diverse places of animation.

Sustainable design Water use reduction, energy cost reduction, and renewable energy purchase are included in the building’s sustainable design targets.
